Biography & Historical Record

Xiahou Jun (夏侯骏, Hạ Hầu Tuấn), courtesy name Changlin (长林), was a senior military general and frontier commander of the Western Jin Dynasty. He was the eldest son of Xiahou Wei (夏侯威 — Inspector of Yanzhou) and a grandson of the legendary grand general Xiahou Yuan (夏侯渊, Hạ Hầu Uyên).

During the reign of Emperor Wu and Emperor Hui of Jin, Xiahou Jun inherited the martial prestige of the Xiahou clan, rising to become General Who Pacifies the West (Anxi Jiangjun / 安西将军) and Inspector of Yongzhou (雍州刺史), stationing his armies in the strategic military nexus of Chang’an. In 296–299 AD, when the massive Di and Qiang tribal insurrection erupted under Qi Wannian (齐万年), Xiahou Jun was tasked with coordinating the western defense alongside the imperial prince Sima Lun (Prince of Zhao) and the fearless general Zhou Chu (周处, Chu Xứ).

Role in Romance & Historical Chronicles

“The Xiahou clan held the western frontiers from the days of Mount Dingjun; Xiahou Jun commanded the legions of Guanzhong amidst the raging storms of the Qiang rebellions.”
— Book of Jin (Military Annals)

In historical accounts of the Western Jin military crises, Xiahou Jun is remembered as a prominent commander caught in the political tensions between the Sima imperial princes and the frontier armies during the prelude to the Disaster of Yongjia.
