Biography & Historical Record
Lu Jun (陆骏, Lục Tuấn), courtesy name Jicai (季才, Quý Tài), was a gentleman of the Wu-commandery Lu clan (吴郡吴县, present-day Suzhou) and the father of Lu Xun (陆逊, Lục Tốn), courtesy Boyan (伯言, Bá Ngôn). He does not have a stand-alone Sanguozhi chapter. Everything solid comes from Pei Songzhi’s note on Sanguozhi 58 (Lu Xun’s biography) citing the Lu shi shisong (陆氏世颂): Lu Xun’s grandfather Lu Yu (陆纡, Lục Vu), courtesy Shupan (叔盘, Thúc Bàn), was a thoughtful City-Gate Colonel; Lu Jun, courtesy Jicai, was “sincere, fine, trustworthy and generous, cherished by the local clan,” and reached Commandant of Jiujiang (九江都尉). That is the whole official portrait: an Eastern Han provincial commandant from a great Jiangdong house, remembered for character rather than a campaign narrative.
Lu Xun was orphaned young and grew up under his granduncle Lu Kang (陆康, Lục Khang), Administrator of Lujiang — not the later Wu general Lu Kang (陆抗, Lục Kháng), Lu Xun’s own son; do not use /lu-kang/ for the granduncle. When Yuan Shu (袁术, Viên Thuật) quarrelled with Lu Kang and moved to attack Lujiang, Lu Kang sent Lu Xun and other kin back to Wu. Lu Xun, a few years older than Lu Kang’s son Lu Ji (陆绩, Lục Tích), took charge of the household. That sequence is why Lu Jun matters in the record: he is the missing generation between City-Gate Colonel Lu Yu and the boy who would become Wu’s Yiling commander. A second son, Lu Mao (陆瑁, Lục Mạo), courtesy Zigui (子珪, Tử Khuê), also reached office in Wu.
The novel names him once, when it introduces Lu Xun before the Yiling campaign. Chapter 83 says Lu Xun was originally Lu Yi (陆议), later Lu Xun, a Wu-commandery man, grandson of Han City-Gate Colonel Lu Yu and son of Jiujiang Commandant Lu Jun. The chapter then belongs to Lu Xun, Sun Quan (孙权, Tôn Quyền), and Liu Bei (刘备, Lưu Bị) — Lu Jun is already dead, present only as the pedigree that makes a young commander look like Jiangdong aristocracy rather than an upstart. Catalogs that call him a “Han official in Chapter 83” are right about the office and the chapter of first mention, and wrong if they imply he stands on the Yiling field.
Role in Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Chapter 83 (Lu Xun Settles the Plan that Breaks the Shu Army / the appointment against Liu Bei): Before Sun Quan (孙权, Tôn Quyền) gives Lu Xun (陆逊, Lục Tốn) the staff against Liu Bei’s (刘备, Lưu Bị) eastern campaign, the narrator recites the Lu pedigree: Han City-Gate Colonel Lu Yu (陆纡, Lục Vu); Jiujiang Commandant Lu Jun (陆骏, Lục Tuấn), courtesy Jicai; the son who changed his name from Lu Yi to Lu Xun. Lu Jun himself does not advise, duel, or die in the chapter. The living men of the scene are Lu Xun, the sceptical Wu veterans, and the Shu host at Yiling. Lu Jun is the dead father in the introduction — the reason the novel can call Lu Xun a son of a Jiangdong great house.
