Luo Shang (罗尚, La Thượng; courtesy name Jingzhi 敬之; d. 310), native of Xiangyang, was a prominent military general of the Western Jin Dynasty, Governor of Liang Province (益州刺史), and nephew of Three Kingdoms Shu Han general Luo Xian (Luo Xian).
Appointed to govern Sichuan during the cataclysmic Ba-Di refugee rebellion led by Li Te and Li Xiong in 301 AD, Luo Shang defended Chengdu across years of desperate, bloody warfare. Although driven from Chengdu when Li Xiong founded the Cheng Han kingdom (304 AD), Luo Shang held the eastern gateway of Ba Commandery (Chongqing) unbroken for six years, coordinating with Jin central forces to maintain the imperial frontier until his death in 310.
Role in History (Jin Shu)
Book of Jin (Jin Shu, vol. 57, Biography of Luo Xian and Luo Shang): “Luo Shang held Ba Commandery against the insurgent hosts of Li Xiong; his fortifications preserved the Yangtze gorges from rebel invasion for a decade.”
