Biography & Historical Record
Luo Shi (罗市, La Thị) is not a speaking officer in Luo Guanzhong’s novel. The name belongs to one of the small Yellow Turban / Black Mountain remnant bands that the histories list after the main 184 AD rising was broken — a chief (or a band called by his nickname) active in the Hebei hill country alongside better-known labels such as Liu Shi (刘石, Lưu Thạch), Ping Han (平汉, Bình Hán), Lei Gong (雷公, Lôi Công), and the later Black Mountain aggregator Zhang Yan (张燕, Trương Yến). Command sizes in that catalogue run from six or seven thousand up to twenty or thirty thousand; Luo Shi is among the lesser names. The import stub placed him in “Chapter 3,” but Chapter 3 of the novel is the He Jin–eunuch crisis in Luoyang, not a Yellow Turban battle. This page treats Luo Shi as a historical remnant name and explains the Chapter 3 neighbourhood only as the same late-180s collapse in which those remnant bands still lived.
After Zhang Jiao (张角, Trương Giác) died and Huangfu Song (皇甫嵩, Hoàng Phủ Tung) and Zhu Jun (朱儁, Chu Tuấn) broke the main armies, the Hou Hanshu and the Zhang Yan materials in the Sanguozhi record a long tail of local risings in Changshan, Zhao, Zhongshan, Shangdang, and Henei. The lists string nicknames together: Yellow Dragon, Left Colonel, Qingniu Jiao, Five Deer, Di Gen, Li Damu, Zuozi Zhangba, Ku You, Liu Shi, Ping Han, Great Flood, Bai Rao, Sili, Yuan Cheng, Luo Shi, Lei Gong, Floating Cloud, Flying Swallow, White Sparrow, Yang Feng, Yu Du. Zhang Yan eventually gathered many of these into the Black Mountain host. Cao Cao’s later settlement of the north absorbed or destroyed what remained. Luo Shi has no independent biography, no courtesy name, and no recorded death — only that one catalogue line.
Role in Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Chapters 1–2 (Peach Garden Oath and the Yellow Turban war; He Jin’s rise): The novel names Zhang Jiao, Zhang Bao, Zhang Liang, and a handful of fictional or recast lieutenants (Cheng Yuanzhi, Deng Mao, Pei Yuanshao, Sun Zhong). It does not put Luo Shi on the field. The historical Luo Shi band belongs to the remnant world that the novel compresses into a few early victories for Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Jian.
Chapter 3 (Dong Zhuo heats the capital; Lü Bu kills Ding Yuan): The chapter the stub cited is the eunuch flight and Dong Zhuo’s seizure of Luoyang — He Jin dead, Zhang Rang and Duan Gui running for the Yellow River, Min Gong and Lu Zhi on the bank, Dong Zhuo marching in. Luo Shi does not appear. The only honest way to read a “Chapter 3” tag is chronological: 189 is still inside the decade when Black Mountain / Yellow Turban remnants, including a band called Luo Shi, were at large in Hebei while the capital ate itself. Do not invent a Luoyang street fight for him.

Zhang Jiao’s thirty-six Fang rise and are broken within the year. Luo Shi is not named among the Fang commanders in the novel or in the core Zhang Jiao narrative; his name belongs to the remnant list that follows.
Named on the remnant roll
Hou Hanshu / Sanguozhi Zhang Yan materials list Luo Shi with Liu Shi, Ping Han, Lei Gong, and the other Hebei nicknames. Activity is placed in Changshan–Zhao–Zhongshan–Shangdang–Henei. Scale: thousands, not a provincial army.
Same decade, different stage
While Dong Zhuo takes Luoyang, remnant bands including Luo Shi’s are still a northern problem. The novel does not cross-cut to them. Zhang Yan later consolidates many of these groups; Cao Cao’s Hebei campaigns finish the story. Luo Shi’s personal end is unrecorded.
