Biography & Historical Record
Lady Xun (荀氏, Tuân thị; ?–255 AD) was an aristocratic noblewoman of the premier Xun clan of Yingyin in Yingchuan Commandery. She was the daughter of Xun You (荀攸), the celebrated grand strategist and master tactician who served Cao Cao throughout his major campaigns.
Belonging to the highest stratum of northern gentry, Lady Xun was married to Guanqiu Dian (毌丘甸), the talented son of General Who Conquers the South Guanqiu Jian (毌丘俭). In early 255 AD, Guanqiu Dian urged his father to launch the Second Shouchun Rebellion to eliminate the regency of Sima Shi and restore imperial authority to the Cao royal house.
When the uprising collapsed, Guanqiu Dian was executed in Luoyang. According to the Book of Jin and Shishuo Xinyu, Lady Xun and her daughters were arrested for execution under dynastic law. Her maternal relative Xun Yi petitioned Sima Shi to spare Lady Xun on behalf of Xun You’s ancestral merit, but she faced the tragic fall of her household with dignified stoicism.
