Lady Sun
Biography & Historical Record
Lady Sun (孙氏, Tôn thị) was an imperial noblewoman of the state of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period. She was a member of the imperial Sun clan, being the daughter of the illustrious general and Imperial Clan Leader Sun Huan (孙桓, Tôn Hoàn, Marquis of Jianchang, who distinguished himself under Lu Xun at the Battle of Yiling against Liu Bei).
Lady Sun married the renowned statesman, court ritualist, and Minister of Ceremonies (Taichang) Teng Yin (滕胤, Đằng Dận). Highly admired for her noble bearing, grace, and devotion to her husband, Lady Sun stood at the center of the Jianye aristocratic elite. In 256 AD, following the assassination of regent Sun Jun, the tyrannical regent Sun Chen seized power. Teng Yin and General Lu Ju launched an armed resistance to depose Sun Chen and preserve imperial stability. When their coalition was overwhelmed by Sun Chen’s palace guard, Teng Yin was slain, and Sun Chen ruthlessly ordered the extermination of Teng Yin’s entire household to the third degree of kinship. Despite being a daughter of the imperial house of Sun, Lady Sun was tragically executed alongside her children, a poignant martyr of late Wu dynastic brutality.
