Empress Zhu (朱皇后, Chu Hoàng Hậu), posthumously Empress Jinghe (景和皇后), was the wife of Emperor Jing of Wu Sun Xiu (孙休, Tôn Hưu). She was granddaughter of Sun Quan (孙权, Tôn Quyền) through her mother Sun Luyu (孙鲁育, Tôn Lỗ Dục). Following Sun Xiu’s death in 264 AD, Empress Zhu prioritized state stability by yielding the throne to Sun Hao (孙皓, Tôn Hạo). In 265 AD, Sun Hao demoted her to Empress Jing and secretly forced her to commit suicide, banishing her sons.
Role in Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Chapter 118–119 (late Wu succession arc): After Sun Xiu dies, court debate over the heir ends with Sun Hao’s enthronement — Empress Zhu as dowager assents for Wu’s survival. Sun Hao later turns on her: the novel’s tyranny arc includes her forced death and the exile of her sons Sun Wan and Sun Gong.
