Biography & Historical Record
Zang Min (臧旻, Tạng Mân) was a distinguished military general, commandery administrator, and loyalist of the Eastern Han dynasty. Hailing from Sheyang County in Guangling Commandery, he was the father of Zang Hong (臧洪), the legendary administrator of Dongjun who gave the blood-oath at the Coalition against Dong Zhuo and died a martyr of righteousness against Yuan Shao.
Endowed with imposing martial vigor, tactical bravery, and civil competence, Zang Min served as Administrator of Wu Commandery and Danyang. In 172–174 AD, when the religious rebel Xu Chang declared himself Emperor of Yue in Kuaiji, Zang Min was appointed by the imperial court to lead the suppression forces. Partnering with the youthful major Sun Jian, Zang Min led a decisive assault that destroyed Xu Chang’s stronghold, pacifying the southern commanderies.
Later, Zang Min was commissioned as General Who Subdues the Barbarians, commanding imperial cavalry alongside Xia Yu and Tian Yan in grand northern expeditions against the Xianbei confederation. His military exploits laid the foundations for the martial prominence of the Guangling Zang lineage.
