Tian Qi

Biography & Historical Record

Tian Qi (田乞, Điền Khất) was the son and successor of Tian Yu (田豫, Điền Dự), styled Guorang (国让, Quốc Nhượng), one of Cao Wei’s legendary northern guardians who spent decades pacifying Xianbei and Wuhuan confederacies along the Youzhou and Bingzhou frontiers. When Tian Yu died in 252 AD at eighty-two sui, Tian Qi inherited the noble title of Marquis of Changping (长乐亭侯) and was expected to maintain his father’s policies of frontier vigilance and measured diplomacy with nomadic peoples. His son Tian Peng (田彭) continued the line. Tian Qi’s own battlefield record is thin in Chen Shou — the notice emphasizes succession and continuity of Tian Yu’s long defensive system rather than new conquests.
