Biography & Historical Record
Teng Mu (滕牧, Đằng Mục; c. 210s–c. 270s AD) was an imperial in-law and high minister of Eastern Wu hailing from Juxian in Beihai Commandery. He belonged to the distinguished Teng lineage alongside Grand Minister Teng Yin (滕胤).
When Teng Yin was executed by Sun Chen in 256 AD, Teng Mu was exiled to the borderlands due to remote kinship. However, in 264 AD, Sun Hao ascended the throne and married Teng Mu’s virtuous daughter, creating her Empress Teng (滕皇后). Teng Mu was recalled to court, appointed General of the Guards (卫将军), and entrusted with major ministerial secrets. Though later marginalized as Sun Hao grew increasingly tyrannical, Teng Mu maintained personal integrity until his death in Cangwu.
