Ling Feng (凌封, Lăng Phong) was the younger son of Wu general Ling Tong (凌统, Lăng Thống), styled Gongji (公绩, Công Tích), and younger brother of Ling Lie (凌烈, Lăng Liệt). When Ling Tong was killed at the Battle of Ruxu in 217 AD at only twenty-nine sui, Sun Quan (孙权, Tôn Quyền) took Ling Lie and Ling Feng into the inner palace and raised them alongside imperial princes — literature, swordsmanship, and naval tactics included. After Ling Lie (凌烈, Lăng Liệt) inherited the family marquisate and died early, Ling Feng received Ling Tong’s hereditary rank and command of the Ling veteran regiments, defending frontier garrisons with steadfast loyalty. The Ling line spans three fighting generations: grandfather Ling Cao (凌操, Lăng Thao), father Ling Tong, and the palace-raised brothers.
