Biography & Historical Record
Kuai Qi (蒯祺, Khoái Kỳ; ?–219 AD) was an Eastern Han official and member of the aristocratic Kuai clan of Zhonglu in Nan Commandery (present-day Xiangyang, Hubei Province). Belonging to the same prestigious clan as Liu Biao’s top advisors Kuai Liang (蒯良) and Kuai Yue (蒯越), Kuai Qi married the eldest sister of Zhuge Liang (诸葛亮), forging an influential kinship bond across Jingzhou’s elite families.
During the late Jian’an era under Cao Cao’s administration, Kuai Qi was appointed Administrator of Fangling (房陵太守) to govern the mountainous frontier between Hanzhong and Jingzhou. In 219 AD, following Liu Bei’s capture of Hanzhong, Liu Bei dispatched general Meng Da to advance eastward from Zigui to capture Fangling. Kuai Qi led local garrisons to resist, but was defeated and slain in combat by Meng Da’s forces.
