Biography & Historical Record
Fu Dian (伏典, Phục Điển) was a noble and official of the Eastern Han dynasty from Donghai Commandery. He was a son of Fu Wan (伏完, Phục Hoàn) and brother of Empress Fu Shou (伏寿). Inheriting his family’s hereditary devotion to Confucian statecraft and classical scholarship, Fu Dian served in administrative and court offices in Luoyang and Xuchang.
Following the secret plot of Fu Wan to assassinate Cao Cao and its subsequent betrayal in 214 CE, the Fu clan suffered widespread persecution. Fu Dian’s life reflected the dangerous crossroads of being imperial in-laws during the warlord hegemony of late Han.
