Biography & Historical Record
Fa Miao (法邈, Pháp Miễu) was the son and heir of Fa Zheng (法正, Pháp Chính), Liu Bei’s indispensable strategist for the Hanzhong campaign and the Yi Province conquest. When Fa Zheng died in 220 AD, Liu Bei was still grieving the loss of his chief adviser; he granted Fa Miao the hereditary title of Marquis of Yi (翼侯, Dực Hầu) in recognition of his father’s service at Mount Dingjun and throughout the western campaigns.
Fa Miao served Shu Han in civil and military administration as Commandant of Chariots (奉车都尉) and Administrator of Hanyang (汉阳太守). His grandfather Fa Zhen (法真, Pháp Chân) was the recluse-scholar named in ROTK Chapter 60 as Fa Zheng’s father. Though Fa Miao never matched his father’s strategic brilliance, Chen Shou’s notices preserve the family’s continued honor in Shu registers.
Role in Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Not named in standard ROTK: Fa Zheng dominates Chapters 60–65 and 71–75, and Fa Zhen appears in pedigree in Chapter 60, but Fa Miao is absent from Luo Guanzhong’s text. His marquisate and offices belong to the historical sequel after Fa Zheng’s novel death in Chapter 75.
