When Liu Bei dispatched Guan Yu to seize Changsha in 208 AD, Yang Ling boldly volunteered to lead a detachment of a thousand troops outside the city walls to engage Guan Yu. Charging directly at Guan Yu with spear in hand, Yang Ling was cut down from his horse in a single bout by Guan Yu’s Green Dragon Crescent Blade.
