Yang Ci

Yang Ci (杨赐, Dương Tứ), courtesy name Bodi (伯献), was a supreme statesman of the Eastern Han dynasty from Huayin, Hongnong Commandery. Belonging to the prestigious Hongnong Yang clan celebrated for “Four Generations of Three Excellencies” (四世三公), he was the son of Grand Tutor Yang Bing and father of Grand Commandant Yang Biao (杨彪), as well as grandfather of the brilliant advisor Yang Xiu (杨修).
Yang Ci served as imperial tutor to Emperor Ling of Han, teaching him the Confucian classics. He rose through the highest state offices, serving successively as Minister of Works (Sikong), Minister over the Masses (Situ), and Grand Commandant (Taiwei). Yang Ci was renowned for his courage in submitting frank memorials criticizing the abuses of palace eunuchs and corrupt relatives. Upon the outbreak of the Yellow Turban Rebellion in 184 CE, the emperor recalled that Yang Ci had warned of Zhang Jue’s treason years earlier, posthumously honoring him as Grand Tutor and Marquis of Linjin.

Chapter 1–2 (Warnings before the storm): In the waning days of Han, Grand Commandant Yang Ci presented earnest memorials to Emperor Ling, warning that the sorcery of Zhang Jue would consume the provinces if left unchecked. His prophetic wisdom was ignored by corrupt courtiers until flames engulfed the empire.
