Biography & Historical Record

Xiahou Chong (夏侯充, Hạ Hầu Sung) was the eldest son and heir of Grand General Xiahou Dun (夏侯惇, Hạ Hầu Đôn). Following Xiahou Dun’s death in 220 AD, Xiahou Chong inherited his father’s primary noble title Marquis of Gaoling (高陵乡侯). Unlike his flamboyant younger brother Xiahou Mao (夏侯楙, Hạ Hầu Mậu), Xiahou Chong was noted for quiet modesty, avoiding factional politics and preserving the family’s honor. His son Xiahou Yi (夏侯廙, Hạ Hầu Dực) continued the line.

Role in Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Chapter 78–79 (Cao Cao’s final years): Xiahou Dun (夏侯惇, Hạ Hầu Đôn) dies soon after Cao Cao; the novel notes his sons’ succession. Xiahou Chong is not staged with dialogue but belongs to the hereditary Gaoling line that contrasts with Xiahou Mao’s later frontier scandals.
