Biography & Historical Record
Sun Tai (孙泰, Tôn Thái) was an imperial clansman and naval officer of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period. He was a son of Sun Jing (孙静), the younger brother of Sun Jian, making him a first cousin to Eastern Wu’s founding monarch Sun Quan.
Sun Tai served Eastern Wu with steadfast martial loyalty, commanding garrisons and naval units along the Yangtze river defenses. He was the father of Sun Xiu (孙秀), the prominent general who served as Area Commander of Jiankou before fleeing to Western Jin during Sun Hao’s tyrannical purges. Sun Tai’s line represented one of the most senior cadet branches of the imperial Sun dynasty.
