Biography & Historical Record
Sun Qiang (孙羌, 孫羌, Tôn Khương; c. 150s–c. 180s AD), courtesy name Shengtai (圣台, Thánh Đài), was a prominent clan elder of the Fuchun Sun lineage of Wu Commandery. He was the elder brother (in some historical traditions, twin brother) of Sun Jian (孙坚), the legendary “Tiger of Jiangdong”, and the biological father of celebrated frontline commanders Sun Ben (孙贲) and Sun Fu (孙辅).
Endowed with a stalwart and upright demeanor, Sun Qiang passed away prematurely in Fuchun before the outbreak of the warlord wars. Following his early death, his heroic son Sun Ben stepped forward to guard his younger siblings, later rallying Sun Jian’s remaining troops after Sun Jian fell at Xiangyang and playing a critical role in supporting Sun Ce and Sun Quan to conquer the Southland.
