Sima Liang (司马亮, Tư Mã Lượng), courtesy name Ziban, was the fourth son of Sima Yi and the Prince of Runan. Following the death of Emperor Wu of Jin (Sima Yan) in 290 AD, Sima Liang was appointed Regent of Western Jin. His rivalry with Empress Jia Nanfeng (贾南风) led Jia Nanfeng to forge an imperial edict ordering Prince of Chu Sima Wei (司马玮) to surround Sima Liang’s residence, resulting in Sima Liang’s murder in 291 AD and igniting the War of the Eight Princes.
