Biography & Historical Record
Sima Jin (司马觐, Tư Mã Cận), courtesy name Simu (思穆), was an imperial prince and military officer of the Western Jin dynasty. He was the eldest son and successor of Sima Zhou (司马伷), Prince of Donghai and key commander in the conquest of Wu, and a grandson of Sima Yi (司马懿).
In 283 AD, Sima Jin inherited the peerage of Prince Gong of Langya (琅邪恭王). During the reign of Emperor Wu of Jin, he held senior appointments as General of the Household and General Who Pacifies the East. Most significantly, Sima Jin was the father of Sima Rui (司马睿), who later founded the Eastern Jin dynasty as Emperor Yuan of Jin, cementing Sima Jin’s place as the direct progenitor of the southern imperial dynasty.
