Qiao Rong (谯荣, Tiêu Vinh) was a respected scholar and local patriarch of Ba Commandery in the late Eastern Han dynasty. Hailing from Xichong in Ba Commandery (modern Sichuan), he was the father of Qiao Zhou (谯周), the supreme classicist, astronomer, and Chief Minister of Shu Han.
Known for his mastery of ancient divination, astrological charts, and Confucian classics, Qiao Rong established the scholarly tradition of the Qiao family in the riverlands. Although he died while Qiao Zhou was still young, his collection of classical books and personal reputation provided the foundation for his son’s rise to become the intellectual leader of Shu Han.
