Biography & Historical Record
Princess Liu (刘公主, Lưu công chúa) was an imperial princess of the Shu Han Dynasty, the daughter of Emperor Liu Shan (刘禅, Lưu Thiện, Second Emperor of Shu) and granddaughter of the founding sovereign Liu Bei (刘备, Lưu Bị).
To solidify the sacred bonds between the Shu imperial house and the heroic lineage of Guan Yu (关羽, Quan Vũ), Emperor Liu Shan bestowed Princess Liu in marriage upon Guan Yu’s direct grandson, Guan Tong (关统, Quan Thống). Guan Tong was the eldest son of Guan Xing and served as General of the Household for All Purposes (Huben Zhonglangjiang). This royal union exemplified the supreme esteem in which the Shu court held the Guan family. Princess Liu presided over the Guan ancestral estate in Chengdu with grace and imperial dignity. Tragically, Guan Tong died without surviving sons, and the lineage continued through Guan Tong’s brother Guan Yi.
