Biography & Historical Record
Princess Jinxiang (金乡公主, 金鄉公主, Kim Hương công chúa; c. 200s–c. 260s AD) was an imperial princess of Cao Wei. She was the daughter of Cao Cao (曹操) and Lady Du (杜夫人), and the full sister of Prince Cao Lin and Prince Cao Gun (曹衮).
Princess Jinxiang was married to the famous Xuanxue philosopher and minister He Yan (何晏) (grandson of General-in-Chief He Jin). Endowed with extraordinary political acumen, she observed He Yan’s haughty arrogance and reckless indulgence in power under Cao Shuang, warning her mother Lady Du: “He Yan’s wickedness and greed will surely bring ruin upon himself; what will become of our household?” Lady Du merely smiled. In 249 AD, Sima Yi executed He Yan during the Incident at Gaoping Tombs. Recognizing Princess Jinxiang’s prior warnings and maternal virtue, Sima Yi deliberately spared her and her young son, allowing them to live in peace.
