Lady Tang (唐姬, Đường Cơ) was the beloved consort of Emperor Shao of Han (Liu Bian / 刘辩, Lưu Biện). When Dong Zhuo deposed Emperor Shao and demoted him to Prince of Hongnong, he dispatched Li Ru (李儒, Lý Nho) in 190 AD with poisoned wine. Before their demise, Prince Liu Bian composed a sorrowful parting poem, and Lady Tang danced and sang a tragic lament that moved all listeners to tears. Following Liu Bian’s death, Lady Tang steadfastly refused marriage proposals from warlord Li Jue, preserving her chastity and honor until Emperor Xian restored her title as Consort of Hongnong.
