Lady Dou (窦氏, Đậu thị) was a noble consort of the legendary warlord Ma Chao (马超, Mã Siêu — “Ma Chao the Splendid”, champion of the Western Liang cavalry and later one of the Five Tiger Generals of Shu Han). She was a prominent member of the illustrious Dou clan of Fufeng, an aristocratic house with ancient imperial ties across the northwestern borderlands.
Following the defeat of the Liangzhou coalition at the Battle of Tong Pass (211 AD), Lady Dou accompanied Ma Chao back to Liangzhou, where he rallied Qiang and Di tribes and seized Jicheng (冀城). During this turbulent occupation, Lady Dou resided within the commandery citadel alongside Ma Chao’s family and his first consort Lady Yang (杨氏). In 213 AD, when local Wei loyalists led by Yang Fu (杨阜), Jiang Xu (姜叙), and Zhao Ang staged a coordinated rebellion, Jicheng was captured. In the brutal purge that ensued, Lady Dou and Ma Chao’s young children were captured and tragically executed, leaving Ma Chao bereft of his family before his flight to Zhang Lu.
