Jiang Xiu (蒋秀, Tưởng Tú) was the younger son of Jiang Qin (蒋钦, Tưởng Khâm), styled Gongyi (公奕, Công Dịch). When his elder brother Jiang Yi (蒋壹, Tưởng Nhất) was killed defending Nan Commandery in 223 AD during Cao Wei’s invasion, Sun Quan (孙权, Tôn Quyền) appointed Jiang Xiu to take over Jiang Yi’s troops and Marquisate of Xuanxing (宣城侯) — the standard Wu practice of keeping a fallen commander’s line under court control. Jiang Xiu led regional garrisons with reported bravery before dying prematurely while still on active service. Unlike Jiang Yi’s Yiling fame, Jiang Xiu’s notice is succession and frontier duty; together the brothers embody the Jiang household’s two-generation service to Wu.
