Huang Kui (黄奎, Hoàng Khuê) is a fictional Han court official in Luo Guanzhong’s novel — not to be confused with Huangfu Kui (皇甫闓) or any attested historical minister of this name. He is the son of Huang Wan (黄琬, Hoàng Uyển), the respected former Grand Commandant, and serves Cao Cao as a Palace Attendant (门下侍郎) during the Ma Teng assassination plot of Chapters 57–58.
Huang Kui embodies the novel’s theme of failed righteous conspiracy: he hates Cao Cao for tyranny, allies with Ma Teng (马腾) to ambush Cao at a troop review outside Xuchang, but the plot leaks through his concubine Li Chunxiang (李春香) and her lover Miao Ze (苗泽). Cao Cao springs an ambush, captures Ma Teng and his sons, and executes Huang Kui alongside them — then orders Miao Ze, Li Chunxiang, and Huang Kui’s entire family executed in the market for public display.
