Hua Yong (花永, Hoa Vĩnh) is a fictional Wei frontier general in Luo Guanzhong’s novel — not to be confused with Hua Yi (华廙, Hoa Dận), the historical Wei scholar-official of a completely different name and role. Hua Yong appears as one of four Wei subordinates under Wang Jing (王经) during Jiang Wei‘s Tao River (洮水) campaign in the late Shu–Wei wars, when Sima Zhao’s western frontier faced repeated Shu invasions after Zhuge Liang’s death.
His entire novel role is a single battle beat: Wang Jing, observing Jiang Wei’s river-backed formation, dispatches Hua Yong with Zhang Ming, Liu Da, and Zhu Fang to engage the Shu vanguard. The four generals charge Jiang Wei; he feigns retreat, then turns and destroys the Wei army at the water’s edge. Hua Yong is not individually described dying on page, but belongs to the Wei force routed into the Tao River — another named casualty of Jiang Wei’s tactical brilliance in the novel’s late campaigns.

Chapter 110 (Jiang Wei Retreats to Hanzhong; Sima Zhao Is Enfeoffed as Prince): Jiang Wei leads fifty thousand Shu troops toward Didao. Wei Border Commander Wang Jing (王经) and Deputy General Chen Tai (陈泰) march to meet him with seventy thousand men. Jiang Wei deploys with his back to the Tao River. Wang Jing tells his four generals — Zhang Ming (张明), Hua Yong (花永), Liu Da (刘达), and Zhu Fang (朱芳): “The Shu army has water behind them; if they lose, they perish in the river. Jiang Wei is fierce — you four should fight him. If they retreat, pursue at once.” The four sortie; Jiang Wei fights briefly, feigns retreat, then turns and annihilates the Wei host at the river. Wang Jing flees to Didao with barely a hundred riders.
