Empress Mao (毛皇后, Mao Hoàng Hậu; posthumously Empress Mingdao) was the first empress consort of Emperor Ming of Wei (Cao Rui / 曹叡, Tào Duệ). In 237 AD, Cao Rui hosted a private banquet with his new favorite Consort Guo (郭夫人) and strictly ordered that Empress Mao not be informed. The next day, Empress Mao politely asked: ‘Did Your Majesty enjoy the banquet in the northern park yesterday?’ Enraged that his secret was known, Cao Rui executed more than ten palace attendants and ordered Empress Mao to commit suicide.
