Biography & Historical Record
Cao Miao (曹苗, Tào Miêu; c. 215s–c. 230s AD) was a young nobleman of Cao Wei and the eldest biological son of the immortal poetic master, Cao Zhi (曹植), Prince of Chensi, born to his primary consort Lady Cui (崔氏) (niece of prominent statesman Cui Yan).
In 226 AD, during the accession year of his cousin Emperor Ming Cao Rui, the imperial court issued decrees enfeoffing Cao Zhi’s sons; Cao Miao was granted the title of Duke of Gaoyang Village (高阳乡公). Tragically, like his mother who had been forced to commit suicide by Cao Cao over dress violations, Cao Miao’s life was shadowed by the tight surveillance imposed on Cao Zhi’s household. He died young before reaching maturity, deeply mourned in Cao Zhi’s memorial poetry.
