When Cao Cao issues a call-to-arms against Dong Zhuo, Bao Xin joins as one of the eighteen Coalition lords, leading his own army alongside his brother Bao Zhong. Eager to claim first blood before Sun Jian, Bao Xin secretly sends Bao Zhong to attack Sishui Pass, but Bao Zhong is swiftly slain by Hua Xiong.

Campaign in Yan Province & Heroic Death
When hundreds of thousands of Yellow Turban rebels invade Yan Province, Governor Liu Dai is killed. Bao Xin and other officials invite Cao Cao to take leadership of Yan Province. During a fierce battle against the Yellow Turbans at Shouzhang, Cao Cao’s forces are surrounded; Bao Xin fights recklessly to rescue Cao Cao, sacrificing his own life in the chaos.
192 AD — Chapter 10
Aftermath & Honor by Cao Cao
Grieved deeply by the loss of his savior, Cao Cao offers a massive reward to recover Bao Xin’s body. When the body cannot be found, Cao Cao orders a wooden effigy carved in Bao Xin’s likeness, weeping bitterly during the formal funeral rites.
